How to use the messaging system to communicate with other users

Messaging & Connections 4 min read

Messaging

The messaging system on Pitch Gurus lets you communicate with people you have a working relationship with on the platform. Your Messages inbox at Profile > Messages contains direct conversations, plus the booking conversations tied to services and events you have booked or are providing.

Who You Can Message

You cannot message any user on the platform freely. Messaging is gated so that coaches and providers are not exposed to unsolicited contact. You can only start a conversation with:

  • A user you are connected with. See Connections for how connections are formed
  • A provider for a service or event you have booked, using the conversation attached to that booking

If you visit the profile of someone you are not connected to and have not booked, the Message button will not be available until a connection is in place.

Starting a Direct Conversation

Once you and another user are connected, you can start a direct conversation:

  1. Navigate to their profile and click Message, or
  2. Go to Profile > Messages and start a new conversation from there

Direct conversations live in the Messages inbox alongside any booking conversations you are part of.

How Connections Unlock Messaging

A connection is what permits direct messaging between two users. Connections are formed in two ways:

  • From a profile: Click Connect on someone's profile to send a request. If they accept, you are connected. Sending and accepting connection requests is completely free
  • From a service booking: When a client books one of your services, a connection is created automatically between provider and client

See Connections for a full breakdown.

Booking and Event Conversations

Service and event bookings come with their own conversation, separate from direct messages:

  • Service bookings: When a booking is accepted, a conversation is opened between provider and client. Because the booking also creates a connection, you can message the same person from your direct inbox as well
  • Event bookings: A conversation is opened on the event booking so attendees can talk to the provider about that specific event. Booking an event does not, on its own, create a wider connection between you and the provider

These conversations are accessed from the booking page rather than the main Messages inbox, but they appear in your inbox filters so you can find them easily.

Managing Conversations

Your message inbox shows all conversations sorted by the most recent message. Use the filters at the top to switch between Direct, Service, and Event conversations. Each row displays:

  • The other person's name and profile picture
  • A preview of the last message
  • Whether the conversation has unread messages

Reading and Sending Messages

Click on a conversation to open it. Type your message in the text field and press Send. Messages are delivered in real time, so the other person will see your message as soon as it is sent.

Booking Conversations

When a service booking is accepted, a conversation is created between the provider and client directly within the booking. You can access this conversation from the booking details page. These conversations do not appear in your main Messages inbox.

Event Announcements

Event announcements are managed separately from direct messages. As a service provider, you can send announcements to all event participants from the event bookings page by clicking the Announcements button. As a participant, you can view announcements from your event booking page. Announcements do not appear in your main Messages inbox. See the event bookings help articles for more details.

Editing and Deleting Messages

If you need to correct a message you've sent, you can edit it within 15 minutes of sending. Hover over the message and select the Edit option. After 15 minutes, the message can no longer be edited. You can also delete messages you've sent at any time.

Muting Conversations

If a conversation is generating notifications you'd rather not receive, you can mute it. Muted conversations still appear in your inbox, but you will not receive notifications for new messages. To mute or unmute, open the conversation and use the mute option.

Tips

  • Respond to messages promptly. Quick replies lead to more bookings and better relationships
  • Keep conversations professional and relevant
  • Use messaging to clarify details before committing to bookings
  • Check your messages regularly, or enable notifications so you don't miss enquiries
